District Development Day

30th September 2018 @ 10:00 am - 4:00 pm

The District Team looks forward to you joining us for an exciting and stimulating day at the Heath Conference Centre working together to determine the future of the District.
Together, we want to piece together our strategic plan that will enable more young people from the local area to access Scouting, equip them with skills for life and ultimately better futures.
We believe this plan should be shaped by as many people as possible and that’s why we are asking representatives from groups to come along too!
Who’s Invited?
We want to ensure that a good cross section of every group is respresented. We are asking Group Scout Leaders in partnership with the group to select a delegation that includes:

The GSL, AGSL or Group Contact
The Group Chair or a representative from the Exec
A Section Leader (from any section)
A Scout

Explorer Units:

The ESL
Three Explorers

Young Leader Unit:

The ESL YL
Three Young Leaders (not part of an ESU)

Network are invited to represent the section and three places will be available on a first come first served basis.
District ASU managers are also invited.
The Format
The Day will start with a plenary in the lecture theatre. We are rather excited to have a very special guest speaker joining us! We are also pleased to welcome a member of the Regional Development Team who will be on hand to offer friendly help and advice.
Throughout the day, there will be a number of workshops, activities and discussions which will help to inform the plan that will take the District forward…
Refreshments and Lunch will  be provided by our World Scout Jamboree Contingent.
Every group who attends will also receive a ‘goodie bag’ of resources and some cool souvenirs!
The Agenda
The day will focus on our three pillars of People, Perception, Programme as well as Youth shaped.
Things we would like to consider include:

Growth

How can we attract new volunteers?
How can we retain and better support volunteers?
In lieu of more volunteers, what else can we do to support one another and grow?
What can we do to fill our vacant GSL roles?
How we can attract/retain more young people?
How can groups who are oversubscribed work with those who are undersubscribed?
What can we do about waiting lists? Is there a better way we can manage them?
The role of the Exec Committee

Inclusivity

How can we reach areas of the community we don’t have much involvement with?
What support can we offer young people with additional needs?
What support can we give leaders to help young people with additional needs.
What can we learn from sections/groups with a high proportion of females

Youth Shape

What can we do to encourage more young adults (18-25 year olds) to join Group Execs and leadership teams
How can Group Execs engage with young people to inform their decision making
What as a District can we do to become more Youth Shaped as a whole?

Community Impact

How can Mersey Weaver have a bigger and more profound impact on our community?
Engaging with A Million Hands

Programme

The quality programme checker
Accessing more adventurous activities
How can our three Activity Centres better serve our young people and the Programme?
How can the District Support with less traditional aspects of the programmed e.g. digital maker
What is preventing us from helping as many young people gain top awards?
